BOOKLETS
Booklets, saddle stitch, perfect bound & centre fold
Multi-page work is priced per job because page count, stock and bindery all move the number. Here are the rules that decide what is possible, so the file you send back is right the first time.
Saddle stitch
- Page count must be a multiple of 4 — 8, 12, 16, 20, 24…
- Practical range roughly 8 to 64 pages depending on stock caliper
- Two wire staples on the spine fold; lies reasonably flat
- Standard finished sizes: 5.5×8.5, 8.5×11, 6×9
- Allow for creep on thicker stocks — keep live matter 0.25″ off the trim
Perfect bound
- Page count must be a multiple of 2, minimum roughly 28 pages to build a spine
- Square glued spine that can carry a printed title
- Cover is a separate heavier stock, usually 100lb gloss cover with lamination
- Spine width depends on page count and stock — we supply the exact spine measurement before you finalise the cover
Centre fold / 4-page
- One fold down the middle: a single sheet becomes 4 printed pages
- Our B-116 to B-121 lines are exactly this — 8.5×11 folded to 5.5×8.5
- Ideal for menus, programmes, short-run brochures and inserts
Why 11×17 matters
- 11×17 tabloid is both a finished poster size (B-125, B-126) and the parent sheet for a letter-size booklet
- One 11×17 sheet folded and stitched gives four 8.5×11 pages
- So a 16-page 8.5×11 saddle-stitched booklet is four 11×17 sheets — useful when you are estimating your own page count
Booklets are quoted, not listed. Send page count, finished size, stock preference, quantity and whether you want saddle stitch or perfect bound, and we come back with a firm number.
FILE PREP
Artwork requirements
Files that meet this spec go straight to plate. Files that do not come back to you, and that is where turnaround time gets lost.
Format & colour
- Press-ready PDF/X-1a preferred; high-resolution TIFF or PNG accepted
- CMYK colour, not RGB. RGB files will shift on press
- Pantone/spot colours converted or clearly specified
- Rich black for large solids: C60 M40 Y40 K100
Resolution & bleed
- 300 dpi at final size for anything printed close-up
- 1/8″ (0.125″) bleed on every edge that prints to the trim
- Keep live text and logos 0.125″ inside the trim line
- Fonts outlined or fully embedded
Finishing to flag up front
- Raised spot UV needs a separate 100% K mask layer
- Foil, painted edge and die-cuts need a named spot-colour path
- Corner rounding (1/4″ or 1/8″ radius) — tell us the radius
- Folds: mark them, do not draw them as printed rules
How to send it
- Upload it with the quote form — up to several files per submission
- Every submission gets a ShopSign job number back by email
- Quote the job number on any follow-up and nothing gets lost

Shipping, pickup & the same-day cutoff
We ship nationwide
- Every line on this rate card ships anywhere in the United States except the two board-mounted poster lines
- Shipping is quoted separately — it depends on weight, carton size and destination
- Flat print ships in cartons; large-format prints ship rolled in tubes
Local only — B-129 and B-131
- 18×24 and 24×36 foam-board / coroplast mounted posters are rigid and oversized
- They are not shipped. Local pickup or local delivery in the Houston area only
- Need the same artwork shipped? Order the unmounted poster (B-127, B-128, B-130) and mount it at your end
Same-day cutoff — 10:00 AM CST
- Print-ready artwork approved before 10:00 AM CST goes on the same day’s run
- After 10:00 AM the job moves to the next production day
- First come, first served — the cutoff is a queue position, not a guarantee on every product
- Specialty stocks, foil, die-cut and bindery work are never same-day

- Same-day cutoff is 10:00 AM CST. Artwork must be print-ready and approved before the cutoff to enter the same day’s run. First come, first served. Specialty stocks, foil, die-cutting and bindery are excluded from same-day.
- Board-mounted posters (B-129, B-131) are local only — pickup or local delivery in the Houston area. They are not shipped.
- Sizes shown are the standard trim. Non-standard sizes, specialty stocks, custom folds and bindery are quoted per job via the Special request box on the quote form.
- Shipping is quoted separately and is confirmed before a job is released to production.
- Prices on this page are current as published and may be revised. A written quote issued against a job number is the binding figure for that job.
- Colour on press is matched as closely as the specified stock and process allow. Screen colour is not a contract proof.
